Leominster train crash LIVE: Horror as train with 66 passengers smashes into tractor

A man has been arrested after a train carrying 66 passengers smashed into a tractor in Herefordshire on Thursday. It has been confirmed that 17 people were injured in the collision which took place in Leominster shortly before 11am.

British Transport Police said a man, aged 32 and from Bromyard, was arrested on suspicion of endangering safety on the railway. An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service told Your Herefordshire: "Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Hereford, Malvern, Redditch, Wyre Forest, Leintwardine, Tenbury Wells and Leominster Fire Stations were called at 10:52 on 22 May to an incident with a train, consisting of five carriages and carrying 66 people in collision with an agricultural trailer unit near Orleton. Six people have been handed over to the care of the ambulance service (log 1314) with minor injuries.

"Police are also in attendance, as are Network Rail. There is no fire and the train was not derailed but there will be some disruption to the line."
