Liverpool are set to emerge from the September international break in an even stronger position, with manager Arne Slot able to call upon a host of reinforcements at just the right time. The current Premier League champions kicked off their title defence with victories over Bournemouth and Newcastle United, maintaining a 100 per cent winning record.
That record had only been matched by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the first few weekends of the season. However, Thomas Frank's side suffered a defeat before Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning free-kick ended the Gunners' flawless record during their visit to Liverpool.
As the September break draws to a close, Liverpool sit comfortably at the top of the table, with a busy schedule of matches on the horizon for Slot and his team. Before the next round of internationals, the Reds will face off against rivals Everton and Chelsea, as well as kicking off their Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns.
First up, however, is an away match against Burnley. When the Premier League team news is announced 75 minutes before kick-off at Turf Moor, fans will be eagerly scanning for the name of Alexander Isak.
The striker set a new British transfer record when he moved from Newcastle United for £125m on deadline day last week. Isak has been largely absent from the pitch over the past three months, so it's likely that patience will be needed as he finds his footing - this might mean he doesn't immediately secure a spot in Slot's starting XI.
However, a player of his quality can't be overlooked and he is set to play a significant role in Liverpool's immediate and long-term plans. Even more so with a number of big games approaching.
Jeremie Frimpong, another new signing, is optimistic about joining the squad this weekend. He was the first Reds player to suffer an injury, leaving the season opener against Bournemouth after 60 minutes, but it's encouraging to see the full-back back in training ahead of the next league match.
Stefan Bajcetic wasn't seen in group training on Wednesday, but he was spotted running outside and kicking a ball. The young midfielder underwent surgery for a hamstring problem he picked up towards the end of his loan spell with Las Palmas last season.
He may not be ready for Slot's squad just yet, but once fit, the Spaniard could easily fill the squad role left vacant by Tyler Morton, who joined Olympique Lyonnais this summer. Jayden Danns, however, was involved in team training.
The 19-year-old has shown his ability to score goals at a senior level before a loan move to Sunderland in the second half of last season was derailed by a back injury. Slot witnessed several of his attacking players depart during the summer transfer window - Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Ben Doak.
Despite significant investment in Isak and Hugo Ekitike, and the emergence of Rio Ngumoha as a promising young talent, there's still room for Danns to demonstrate his worth to the team. The Carabao Cup match against Southampton on September 23 might be his best opportunity to play, unless Isak needs the game time to improve his fitness.
Finally, one player who hasn't yet been included in any competitive matchday squad this season is Trey Nyoni. The midfielder signed a long-term contract this summer but has struggled to secure a place in Slot's plans - something that could change when European and cup matches resume.
Nyoni has shown himself to be a versatile player during pre-season, which could be incredibly useful for a manager balancing multiple stars across various competitions.
