'Masterpiece' Netflix series based on a book hailed by fans is 'perfect' for Halloween

Netflix viewers have been raving about a gothic series called The Haunting of Bly Manor, which is available to watch on the streaming giant. The horror drama follows the story of a young au pair called Dani Clayton (played by You star Victoria Pedretti) who is hired to care for two orphans at the Bly Estate in England.

The series is set in the 1980s, and when the nanny arrives at the historic manor, she starts seeing strange apparitions and soon learns the house is haunted by a 'lady in the lake'. The children she cares for often speak as though they are possessed by something demonic. As Dani digs into Bly Manor's troubled past, she is forced to confront her own ghosts, which haunt her.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is inspired by Henry James's The Turn of the Screw. It is as much a love story as a horror series, and it has received dozens of five-star reviews from viewers.

One person wrote on Google Reviews: "One line review - It's perfectly splendid." A second penned: "This horror, true to the book, is much more in the psychological vein rather than jump scares (though there are a few truly frightening scenes dispersed throughout the episodes), but pulls it off exceptionally, meaning that it holds up against its predecessor, just in a different way."

A third chimed, " This is the most beautiful haunting love story I've ever watched. It's kind of at its own pace, but it's so deep. Everything leads to unlocking the mystery of Haunting Love."
