Police officer in life-threatening condition after being hit by car while on duty named

A officer in critical condition after being hit by a car while on duty has been named as PC Christopher Miller. The 38-year-old suffered "very serious injuries" in a collision with a white BMW that failed to stop in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, at around 10:20pm on Thursday, Thames Valley Police said. Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident. PC Miller has spent five years with the roads policing unit and has been in the police for 13 years. His family and closest colleagues are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, the force added.

Two men, aged 28 and 38, both from , were arrested on suspicion of attempted and causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remain in custody. A third man, aged 43, from Slough, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice and has been released on police bail. A 37-year-old woman from Slough was also arrested on Sunday on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice, authorities said.

Speaking to reporters in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, on Sunday, Detective Superintendent Will Crowther said PC Miller had been seriously injured and left in a life-threatening condition "whilst simply doing his job".

"We want to hear from anybody that witnessed a white BMW driving erratically in the areas of Stoke Poges and Slough between 8pm on Thursday evening until around 1am on the morning of Friday, May 23," he added.

"We believe that after the collision the BMW will have sustained damage to the front of the car. If you saw the vehicle, we urge you to please check your dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell footage which may have captured something that could assist us with this investigation.

"We are conducting an extensive investigation and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice. I believe there are people out there that know who is responsible."

Thames Valley Police Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs added: "Police officers face danger every day. In this incident, PC Christopher Miller was simply doing his job, serving the public and keeping our communities safe.

"All officers should expect to return home safely after each tour of duty, and we wish Christopher a swift and full recovery.
