is not short of beautiful islands. Among them is Sifnos, which is known for its exquisite cuisine and traditional villages.

The island, full of amazing beaches, architecture and crystal blue waters, is just as pretty as the more famous and visited - but .

The island is home to 13 close-knit villages made up of cobblestone streets, white houses, churches and windmills.

Although the villages are close together, they all bring their own unique feel.

Apollonia, the capital of Sifnos, named after the Greek god Apollo, is built in the shape of an amphitheatre three hills in the centre of the island.

There, you'll find the Folklore Museum, which hosts plenty of exhibits of "old-fashioned" lifestyle, including the display of farming tools, household articles and local customs.

For those who really want to experience the fantastic dishes the island has to offer, the village of Artemonas is the exact place to be.

Artemonas is home to some of Sifnos's most famous restaurants and patisseries - who wouldn't be drawn to the smell of freshly baked cookies?

The village also experiences cooler temperatures than the rest of the island, so best to book accommodation there if you don't take too well to heat.

Sifnos ancient capital, Kastro, is probably the most historically rich part of the island. The village still has its medieval structure with gates known as lozies guarding it.

Take a visit to the Archaeological Museum, which houses sculptures and pottery artefacts dating all the way back between the Geometric period to the Byzantine Period. Up on the village's rocky hill, discover the Church of Eftamartyos and take in the view of the Aegean Sea.

The island may be small in size, but visitors are certainly spoilt for choice, where you can enjoy a holiday full of fun without the busyness that comes with the other islands.
