The UK's most stressful junction - not Swindon's Magic Roundabout

The UK's most stressful junction has been unveiled, with the road located in Northwest London. New analysis from Scrap Car Comparison put together a stress test, ranking roundabouts and junctions out of 100. This survey revealed that the Hanger Lane Gyratory is the worst-scoring in the UK, making it the most terrifying roundabout for petrol, diesel, and electric car drivers in the country.

According to the motoring experts, the Gyratory system scored 44 out of 100, even topping the iconic Swindon Magic Roundabout, which scored 42 out of 100. The Cromer Road & Boundary Road Junction in Norwich was the third on 40 out of 100, followed by The Crooked Billet Interchange at Waltham Forest on 38 out of 100.

Scrap Car Comparison explained: "When it comes to the UK, London's Hanger Lane Gyratory is revealed as the country's most stressful junction, scoring 44 out of a possible 100 on our Stress Score system.

"One of the most complex and infamous junctions in the nation's capital, the confusing layout, high accident rate and bottleneck for traffic make it one that many drivers would much rather avoid.

"Sitting at the junction of the A40 Western Avenue and the A406 North Circular Road, and with an underground station at the centre, drivers navigating the gyratory will encounter 10 different entry and exit points, many of which require lane changes to access the correct route through - the advice of 'stay in your lane' definitely isn't one that applies here."

The Hanger Lane Gyratory connects three major roads in Northwest London with the A40, A4005 and A406 all coming together.

Strangely, the roundabout is located on top of the railway line with Hanger's Lane London Underground station positioned in the centre.

The road is closer to Park Royal and not far from Ealing with the A40 taking motorists into Central London in less than half an hour.

However, the Hanger Lane Gyratory was only the tenth most stressful in the world, behind junctions located in Rome, Paris and Tokyo.

However, the Meskel Square Roundabout in Ethiopia was found to be the worst with a stress score of 56 out of 100.

The Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange in Los Angeles was next with the poll scoring the route 51 out of 100.
