Monday night in Mumbai was filled with glamour, laughter and heartfelt moments as the premiere of Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound lit up the city. The film, already applauded at Cannes, brought together some of Bollywood’s brightest stars, all eager to celebrate a story that has touched audiences worldwide.
The red carpet sparkled with appearances by Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, Vishal Jethwa, Hrithik Roshan, Arjun Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Vicky Kaushal, Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar and Rhea Chakraborty. Each arrival added to the excitement of an evening that was as much about camaraderie as it was about cinema.
Among the many highlights was the lively banter between Karan Johar and Farah Khan. Known for their sharp wit and long-standing friendship, the two entertained the crowd with jokes that instantly went viral. Karan, teasing Farah about her popular cook Dilip who often appears in her vlogs, quipped about his rising fame and said that nowadays no one else is more popular than Dilip, only for Farah to playfully question her own place in the spotlight.

The exchange, full of laughter, reminded everyone of the warmth and humor they bring to their bond, one that has delighted fans since their early days working together on Duplicate.
The night also offered tender glimpses of genuine friendship. Vicky Kaushal embraced Ishaan Khatter with pride, congratulating him on the film’s success. Hrithik Roshan’s sharp all-black outfit drew admiration, while Farhan Akhtar arrived hand-in-hand with Shibani Dandekar, joined by Rhea Chakraborty, giving the premiere a strong star-studded presence.
But beyond the red carpet glow, the true star of the evening was Homebound. Announced as India’s official submission for the International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards, the film carries both artistic and emotional depth. Inspired by Basharat Peer’s essay Taking Amrit Home, it explores the journey of two childhood friends in a small North Indian town. Against the backdrop of caste conflicts, religious divides and the haunting stillness of the pandemic lockdowns, the story finds its heart in resilience and human connection.
Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa deliver moving performances that capture the complexities of love, friendship and survival. Director Neeraj Ghaywan expressed his gratitude at the premiere, saying the film is rooted in love for the land and its people, and represents the shared idea of home that unites us all.
The evening was a reminder that cinema, at its best, can bring people together, whether through laughter on the red carpet or silence in a darkened theatre touched by a powerful story.
