IPL 2025: After Mahela Jayawardene, Former Team India Coach Returns To Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians (MI) have kicked off their preparations for IPL 2025 and they recently made a big change in their coaching staff. The Mumbai-based franchise removed Mark Boucher as their head coach after the team's below-par performance under him and brought back Mahela Jayawardene. The Sri Lanka legend worked as MI's head coach from 2017 to 2022 before becoming the overall head of the franchises owned by the group in different leagues.MI, who finished at the last spot in the IPL 2024 points table, have made another appointment and brought back Paras Mhambrey as their bowling coach. Paras was part of MI's coaching staff when they won the IPL 2013 and Champions League Trophies.Since the coaches were asked to choose between the IPL and the BCCI's teams in 2017, Paras left the T20 league and continued to work under Rahul Dravid. Dravid too left his position as the chief coach of Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils).Paras joined India as their bowling coach in 2021 and played a key role in the team's success. His contract came to an end following India's title win at the 2024 T20 World Cup.Paras will be working with Lasith Malinga at MI. The IPL legend started his coaching career with Rajasthan Royals and joined MI before IPL 2024.Will Mumbai Indians retain Rohit Sharma?The fans are eagerly waiting for a word on Rohit Sharma's future with MI. The franchise removed him from captaincy before IPL 2024 and he played under Hardik Pandya's leadership. Hardik-led MI finished at the last spot.Rohit played as an Impact Player towards the end of the season, raising doubts over his future with MI. It also remains to be seen if Suryakumar Yadav stays with MI. He is the present captain of the T20I team but might have to play under Hardik if retained by MI.
