Rourkela: The body of a 41-year-old man, Manidip Mistry from West Bengal, was handed over to his family on Saturday following postmortem. Mistry, a resident of New Town, was found dead inside Gitanjali Express on Friday.
Mistry, who worked as a labourer in Mumbai, was returning home after falling ill. He boarded the Gitanjali Express on June 19. Upon the train's arrival at Rourkela railway station around 7:30 am on Friday, the train guard found Mistry unconscious in the general bogey. Railway officials were alerted, and Mistry was declared dead by a railway doctor at the station.
The government railway police (GRP), Rourkela, was informed, and Mistry's body was sent to the Rourkela govt hospital for postmortem. Efforts to contact Mistry's family were initially hampered by a locked mobile phone found in his pocket. However, when Mistry's wife called his phone, GRP officials informed her of his death and requested a male family member to come to Rourkela to collect the body.
Mistry's wife, sister, and brother-in-law arrived in Rourkela on Saturday. "We have registered an unnatural death case and are investigating the matter," said Reshma Ekka, IIC, Government Railway Police in Rourkela. "The post-mortem report will reveal the cause of his death," Ekka added.
