Chennai: A 33-year-old man was killed on Saturday night at a timber storage facility near Puzhal after a cable on a crane broke, causing a heavy wooden log to fall on him, authorities said Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Rajesh, alias John, a resident of Kathirvedu near Puzhal. He was employed at a timber godown in the area. He was employed at the timber godown, where he was assisting in loading logs from the storage area onto a container trailer.
Police said Rajesh was positioned beneath a log that was suspended by the crane when the cable suddenly snapped. The crane's boom and a portion of the log then collapsed, fatally crushing him.
Puzhal police recovered the body and sent it to a govt hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered. police are conducting enquiries with the godown owner and the crane operator.
