Man held on charges of assault, extortion in Kolar

Bhopal: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on the charges of threatening and assaulting a restaurant owner near D-Mart in Kolar.

Acting on a viral video, Kolar police arrested Sandeep Khatri from near Pahadi Mandir area and launched a manhunt for his accomplice Shivam Chaudhary.

Police said the incident occurred on October 15, when Khatri and his accomplice ate at the restaurant. When asked for payment, they assaulted the restaurant owner.

Khatri suddenly retrieved a sword and threatened to kill the restaurant owner if he was not given Rs 1,000 for alcohol. A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.

During interrogation, police said, he confessed to the crime. The weapon was recovered from a nearby area. Khatri, a substance abuser, was charged under the Arms Act and remanded to Central Jail, Bhopal.
