HISAR: On the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar 's birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narender Modi on Monday inaugurated the first commercial flight between Hisar and Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone for the second terminal of Maharaja Agrasen Airport. The event marked a major development in regional air connectivity and served as a platform for a fierce political attack on the Congress party .
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister accused the Congress of consistently disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar and suppressing the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). “The Congress not only insulted Baba Saheb but also undermined his policies, effectively treating SCs, STs, and OBCs as second-class citizens,” said Modi.
The Prime Minister also criticized the Congress over various issues, including the Karnataka government's alleged religion-based tendering practices and its position on the Uniform Civil Code. In contrast, he highlighted the achievements of his administration, including the “Har Ghar Jal Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jan Dhan Yojana, and reforms to the Waqf Act. He praised the BJP-led Uttarakhand government for taking steps toward implementing a Uniform Civil Code.
Pressing a remote button to unveil the terminal project, Modi said the new facility will cost Rs 486 crore. “With the inauguration of this flight, the sacred land of Shri Krishana in Haryana is now directly connected to the city of Lord Ram,” he said. The flight links Hisar’s Maharaja Agrasen Airport with Ayodhya’s Valmiki Airport. The Prime Minister added that more destinations would soon be added to the airport's roster.
Paying tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, Modi began his address with chants of “Baba Saheb Ambedkar Amar Rahe.” He greeted the gathering in Haryanvi, saying, “Ram Ram to the strong people of our Haryana — strong in spirit, strength, sport, and unity.”
He also thanked the public for turning out in large numbers despite the ongoing Lavni (harvest) season. Paying respects to Guru Jambheshwar, Maharaja Agrasen, and Agroha Dham, he recalled his earlier visits to Hisar and described the day as “a second Diwali,” especially for the marginalized sections of society.
Modi said the BJP government draws inspiration from the life and teachings of Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of India’s Constitution. “Every decision, every policy is aimed at uplifting the poor, oppressed, and marginalized,” he asserted.
Reiterating his promise that “those wearing slippers will also fly in airplanes,” the Prime Minister said air travel in India has expanded rapidly over the past decade. “Millions of Indians have flown for the first time in the last 10 years. We have built airports even in places that didn’t have decent railway stations. Before 2014, India had 74 airports. Today, there are over 150,” he said.
Modi noted that 90 airports have been connected under the UDAN scheme, with air services now operational on more than 600 routes. Airlines have placed orders for 2,000 new aircraft, which he said would boost employment opportunities for the youth.
