YAMUNANAGAR : Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of two development initiatives in Yamunanagar district on Monday, reaffirming the government’s commitment to a Viksit (developed) Haryana as a step towards a “Viksit Bharat.”
Addressing a large gathering, the PM paid tribute to the historic and spiritual significance of Haryana, describing it as the sacred land of Maa Saraswati, Mantra Devi, Panchmukhi Hanuman Ji, and Kapalmochan Sahib. He extended his greetings on the 135th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar and reiterated his government’s dedication to Baba Saheb’s vision of social justice through industrial and economic development.
“Yamunanagar is not just a city—it’s a vital industrial hub,” Modi said, highlighting its contributions in plywood, brass, steel, and equipment manufacturing. He also recalled his close association with the region during his tenure as BJP’s in-charge for Haryana, lauding the people’s spirit of hard work and dedication.
Stressing the government’s push toward infrastructure, power, and agriculture, the PM unveiled new projects, including the foundation stone of the 800 Megawatt third unit at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant. He emphasized that increased electricity production is central to India’s development, especially for industry. “A shortage of electricity should never hinder nation-building,” he remarked.
He pointed to various efforts to strengthen India’s power sector, such as the ‘One Nation-One Grid’ policy, expansion of coal, solar, and nuclear energy, and notably, the PM Suryagarh Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme encourages rooftop solar panel installations, aiming to eliminate electricity bills and allow consumers to earn from surplus power. “Over 1.25 crore people have already registered, including lakhs from Haryana,” he shared.
Highlighting the “Mission Manufacturing” initiative, announced in the Union Budget, PM Modi noted its focus on empowering youth from marginalized communities, strengthening MSMEs, and integrating modern technology to create global-quality Indian products.
On the rural development front, the PM praised Haryana’s farmers for their relentless contribution to India’s food security. He noted that the state now procures 24 crops under MSP and has seen disbursals of Rs 6,500 crore through PM-Kisan and Rs 9,000 crore under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana. He also hailed the state’s abolition of the colonial-era canal water tax, waiving Rs 130 crore in farmer dues.
The Gobar-dhan Yojana also found a key mention, with the PM laying the foundation stone for a new municipal solid waste based 2,600 tonnes per annum capacity biogas plant in Yamunanagar. “This plant will not only contribute to waste management and clean energy but will save Rs 3 crore annually for the Yamunanagar Jagadhri municipal corporation,” he said.
He further emphasized the government’s support for MSMEs, citing financial relief extended during the pandemic and reforms such as a revised MSME definition and special credit cards. The Mudra Yojana, he noted, has disbursed Rs 33 lakh crore in collateral-free loans, with over half of the beneficiaries belonging to SC, ST, and OBC communities.
Drawing a sharp contrast with opposition-ruled states, the PM criticized delays in development and rising living costs in states like Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. “While some governments stall projects or break promises, our model is one of delivery and development,” he said.
On the occasion of Baisakhi and the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, PM Modi paid tribute to martyrs and hailed Shankaran Nair’s defiance against British atrocities as a beacon of unity and resistance.
He concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to empowering the pillars of society—the poor, farmers, youth, and women—and expressed confidence in Haryana’s continued growth.
Present at the event were Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union ministers Manohar Lal Khattar, Rao Inderjit Singh, Krishan Pal Gurjar, Haryana cabinet minister Anil Vij, Shyam Singh Rana, Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma among other dignitaries.
