Silchar: The 164th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was commemorated with dignity and enthusiasm across Assam's Barak Valley and Dima Hasao regions on Friday. Various cultural organisations led the celebrations, demonstrating deep appreciation for the distinguished Bengali poet.
The primary celebration in Silchar was organised jointly by Silchar Municipality, Lions Club Silchar Central, and Arya Sanskriti Bodhoni Samiti. Local MLA Deepayan Chakraborty and other notable figures participated in a floral tribute ceremony at Tagore's statue near India Club junction. The commemoration continued with diverse cultural presentations, including dance performances, musical renditions, and poetry recitations. Various speakers discussed Tagore's life journey, philosophical thoughts, and his contributions to literature and society.
The celebrations extended throughout Barak Valley and Dima Hasao, with Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sankriti Sammelan and Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Assam, coordinating observances across numerous clubs, educational institutions and cultural organisations.
