Jaipur: Severe heatwave conditions continue in various parts of the state, barring Udaipur division, for the eighth consecutive day Wednesday. Twelve places witnessed maximum temperatures at or above 44 degrees Celsius. The state capital, Jaipur, saw the hottest afternoon of the season so far, with a maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius.

Sriganganagar remained hottest in the state where a maximum temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius was recorded.

Markets remained closed in many places, including Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Phalodi, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer and Pilani from 11am to 5pm, as shopkeepers and traders preferred to stay at home to avoid exposure to severe heat wave conditions. In many districts, the civic authorities were seen sprinkling water on the streets.

People in Jaipur woke up to a warmer morning when a minimum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius was recorded. The ongoing spell of the heat wave also increased the footfall in the OPD of various hospitals, as patients complaining of vomiting, nausea, and dehydration approached the doctors.

In the afternoon, roads were almost empty in Jaipur as people confined themselves to their homes and offices. In its forecast for Jaipur, the Met office said that no respite is likely in the coming days, as on Thursday, there is a possibility that Jaipur might record a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. At least 12 districts in the state were under the grip of severe heat wave conditions.

However, due to rainfall, districts including Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Bhilwara witnessed some relief from the heat wave conditions. In its forecast, the Jaipur Met office said that there is no respite ahead throughout this month.
