Ahead of Panchayat elections, Ludhiana rural police recovers 34 boxes of Liquor from a vehicle

LUDHIANA: Ahead of Panchayat elections , Ludhiana rural police has booked a person after it recovered 34 boxes of liquor from a vehicle. The accused was identified as Lovedeep Singh of Baddowal.

Police officials said that a police party of Dakha Police station led by SHO Sub Inspector Gurvinder Singh was present at Bhanohar village for checking of vehicles on Sunday evening. They added that an informer provided tip off that the accused is bringing liquor in a Scorpio car to distribute the same to lure voters in Panchayat elections.

Cops said that as per the information, if Jadi Pakki link road from Baddowal to Pamal village is immediately blocked/patrolled immediately, then the accused can be arrested with heavy quantity of liquor in the car. They added that after finding the information credible and reliable, police registered a case into the matter.

Police officials said that cops recovered liquor boxes from the vehicle.

DSP Dakha Varinder Singh Khosa said that the accused is on the run and his political affiliation, will be known after he is arrested. He added that each of the 34 boxes recovered contains 12 bottles of liquor.

DSP said that the police has issued strict warning to such unruly elements to refrain from such acts in the future and the police have already prepared a strategy to conduct the elections peacefully. He added that the law and order situation will not be allowed to be disturbed in any way and Model Code of Conduct will be enforced.
