Nagpur: While a family slept peacefully on the upper floor of their home in Jagdamba Nagar, a thief quietly broke in through a kitchen window downstairs and made away with over Rs6.24 lakh in cash and valuables.
The incident occurred sometime between midnight and 1am on Sunday, while complainant Muqsid Ahmed Abdul Gaffar Sheikh (33) and his two brothers were attending a wedding out of town. Only Sheikh's wife, mother, and children were at home, asleep on the top floor.
Taking advantage of the absence, the unidentified thief entered through a grill-less kitchen window on the ground floor. Inside, they broke open an iron cupboard locker in the bedroom and escaped with Rs1,00,000 in cash, along with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs5,24,500.
Based on Sheikh's complaint, a case was registered at Kapil Nagar police station under BNS sections 305 and 331(4). ASI Shinde is leading the investigation.
"The complainant is an engineer at a private firm. The stolen cash belonged to various family members and was not of any one individual. The burglar entered easily through a kitchen window that had no grill, so no locks were broken. We're still investigating how many people were involved, as no one actually saw the intruder," said Shinde.
