Ghaziabad: Residents of Sector 1, ward 76, in Vaishali have expressed serious concern about potential flooding as monsoon approaches. The drain between plot numbers 567 and 568 has not been cleaned, and with damaged walls, surrounding garbage dumps, and construction debris threatening to compound drainage issues during heavy rainfall.
Residents state that about two years ago, the drain had caused a lot of damage to the nearby houses as it overflowed due to its broken walls. "The condition of the dirty drain in front of the houses of Sector 1, Vaishali Ward 76, plot numbers 567 to 578 is getting worse. About two years ago, during the rains, this drain caused a lot of damage. The rainy season is about to start now, and residents of the area fear a similar incident this year too, as no work has been done to address the issues related to the dirty drain," said Sunil Vaid, a resident.
Vaid added that efforts to reduce waterlogging include fixing the broken drain wall, clearing garbage and construction waste from the drain and nearby green spaces, and removing unauthorized vehicles encroaching on the area.
Vaid has written to the GMC as well as the horticulture department and marked a copy of his letter to the GMC commissioner as well as the local councillor of the area. However, a month has passed with no action.
"I have also given information about the dirty drain in the area to Nagar Nigam Ghaziabad's APP 311, Yet, there's no action so far," said Vaid, who also urged for the planting of big trees around the green belt of the train to protect it from garbage, debris, encroachment, as well as pollution.
A response from the Ghaziabad municipal corporation officials is awaited on the matter.
