95 Congress leaders express intent to contest elections from 11 assembly seats in Kalyan and Bhiwandi: Ex-minister

KALYAN: In preparation for the Maharashtra assembly election, the Congress party on Tuesday interviewed interested candidates for the 11 assembly constituencies that fall under the Bhiwandi and Kalyan Lok Sabha constituencies in Kalyan. A total of 95 people expressed their desire to contest the elections from these 11 seats.

The interested candidates were interviewed by Congress MP and former minister Chandrakant Handore. During the interviews, a maximum of 18 candidates expressed their desire to contest the elections from the Bhiwandi (West) assembly seat. Candidates like Dayanand Choraghe, Rashid Tahir Momin, Vilas Patil and Talha Momin expressed their desire to contest from this seat.

From Ambernath, 8 candidates showed interest in contesting, including the prominent face of Rohit Salve. From Kalyan (West), 5 candidates showed interest, including prominent figures like Rajabhau Patkar, Kanchan Kulkarni, and Navin Singh.

Handore said that seat sharing for the 18 assembly seats of Thane district has not been finalised yet in the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Interviews of interested candidates from all parties are ongoing, and after sending the lists of interested candidates, the senior leadership will decide on the final candidature with the other alliance partners of the Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Handore also mentioned that interviews for the remaining assembly constituencies of Thane District will be held in Thane, including one assembly seat.
