Varanasi: A youth was brutally assaulted by a group of men for allegedly harassing a woman after the Ganga Aarti on Monday evening. Police were investigating the matter.
DCP Kashi Gaurav Banswal on Tuesday said that Rehan was walking around the ghat on Monday night when his hand accidentally touched a woman. On seeing this, some local youths caught him and assaulted him. On the complaint of Rehan's father, an FIR was lodged against four to five miscreants, and efforts were being made to nab them after ascertaining their identity.
During investigation, it came to light that Mohammad Rehan of Khajoor Gali in the Dalmandi area went to Dashashwamedh Ghat at night when he got into a dispute with some locals. It led to an altercation and he was beaten with a belt and stick. Rehan was taken to divisional hospital.
