India's trade deficit narrows to $20.78 billion in September

NEW DELHI: India's trade deficit in September was reported at 20.78 billion, which improved from the ten-month high of $29.65 billion trade deficit recorded in August. The trade deficit is the difference between imports and exports .

India's merchandise exports in September showed a slight increase, reaching $34.58 billion compared to $34.41 billion in the same month last year while imports rose 1.6 per cent rise, amounting to $55.36 billion in September, up from $54.49 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, exports in the first half of the current fiscal year, from April to September, showed a modest growth of one per cent, reaching $213.22 billion while imports during the same period increased 6.16 per cent , totaling $350.66 billion.
