Trade Details and Financial Implications


The Jets are trading for Adams, sending the Raiders a third-round draft pick that could go as high as a second-rounder dependent upon condition. The upgrade on the pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, rests on whether Adams is first or second-team All-Pro or the Jets make it to the Super Bowl or a championship game with Adams. New York Jets will absorb $11.59 million of Adams' remaining base salary; the Raiders will pay $16.89 million in draft picks. Over the next two years, the contract will cost the Jets as much as $72.5 million; with performance bonuses and incentives, the total commitment stands at $82.5 million.


The Salary Cap Situation


Jets' salary cap is currently $261.1 million; thus, on the financial side of things, the deal becomes very feasible though only leaving them with $5.6 million in cap space after the trade. On the Raiders' side, who were aggressive in this trade, they would free up $37.6 million, but they would still be at $46.5 million in dead money after they seal the deal.
