Google CEO Sundar Pichai has congratulated the AI team working at Facebook parent Meta after the tech company released its Llama 4 , a new series of advanced AI models . These models, including Llama 4 Scout and Maverick, showcase multimodal capabilities, enhanced reasoning and efficiency, positioning Meta as a strong competitor in the AI space.
“Never a dull day in the AI world! Congrats to the Llama 4 team, Onwards!” Pichai said in a post on X.
Meta launches Llama 4 AI models to compete with Google, OpenAI
Meta has launched its latest suite of AI models, Llama 4, which now powers the company's AI assistant across its platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. The release comprises two immediately available models, Scout and Maverick, with a third, Behemoth, currently in training.
Llama 4 Scout is designed to operate on a single Nvidia H100 GPU and features a 10-million-token context window for processing extensive documents. Meta claims Scout outperforms Google's Gemma 3 and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, as well as the open-source Mistral 3.1, on various benchmarks. It has 109 billion total parameters with 17 billion active parameters.
Llama 4 Maverick requires greater computing resources, such as an Nvidia H100 DGX system. Meta reports Maverick competes with OpenAI's GPT-4o and Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash in coding, reasoning, multilingual capabilities, and image processing. It contains 400 billion total parameters with 17 billion active parameters across 128 "experts."
Both Scout and Maverick utilize a "mixture of experts" (MoE) architecture, enhancing efficiency by activating only relevant parts of the model for specific tasks.
Llama 4 Behemoth (in development) will feature 288 billion active parameters and nearly two trillion total parameters. Meta's internal testing indicates Behemoth outperforms models like GPT-4.5 and Claude 3.7 Sonnet on several STEM evaluations.
Pichai congratulated Elon Musk on launch of Grok-3
Previously, Pichai congratulated Musk on the launch of Grok-3 AI model. Following the release of Grok 3, Pichai commented on Elon Musk's X post, stating, “Congrats on the progress! Look forward to trying it out.”
Musk asserted that Grok 3 surpasses several leading AI models, including Gemini 2 Pro, DeepSeek V3, and GPT-4o, in areas like science, coding, and mathematics.
