Microsoft AI division CEO Mustafa Suleyman unveiled his vision for personalized AI companions during the company's 50th anniversary celebration in Redmond, Washington, an event also attended by the three CEOs of Microsoft – Bill Gates , Satya Nadella and Steve Balmer.

"We're really trying to land this idea that everybody is going to have their own personalized AI companion," said Suleyman during the event. Suleyman, who joined Microsoft just over a year ago to lead its newly formed AI division, described a future where AI companions would become deeply integrated into users' lives. "It will, over time, have its own name, its own style. It will adapt to you. It may also have its own visual appearance and expressions," Suleyman told AP in an interview.

Microsoft’s AI CEO wants everyone to have “meaningful relationship” with their AI companions

The AI chief emphasized these companions would form a "lasting, meaningful relationship" with users - "One that knows your name, gets to know you, has a memory of everything that you've shared with it and talked about and really comes to kind of live life alongside you," he said.

Some features announced include new "visual memory" capabilities for mobile apps that track users' digital activity and animated avatars to embody the AI companions.

Suleyman acknowledged the competitive market but remained confident: "Copilot in the workplace, Copilot at home is the future of the company. On the consumer side, we are going to be committed to this for many decades to come."

The AI chief, who previously co-founded DeepMind , predicted these AI companions would transform work and home life by automating administrative tasks and allowing people to "focus on the bigger picture."
