A foreign-origin drone appeared atop a house in Kuripatti in Assam's Sribhumi district , around 100 metres from the border with Bangladesh, on Tuesday night, causing security concerns among the locals and prompting Assam Police to seize the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), reports B B Goswami. "We are treating the matter seriously. A forensic examination of the drone is underway to trace its flight path, origin, and purpose," a senior police officer said, indicating that the drone entered from Bangladesh.
Security officials are investigating potential connections to espionage or contraband activities.
"We're not ruling out surveillance attempts or even dry runs for larger operations," a BSF source said. The border force has stepped up the monitoring and electronic surveillance across the 92-km international border stretch in Sribhumi district.
