NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a key meeting to review the progress in the country's tourism sector. The meeting comes in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, on April 22.
Post the terror attack in the valley, the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir suffered a severe blow. More so, when India and Pakistan launched military operations against each other. India targeted the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Opreation Sindoor. The retaliatory shelling from Pakistan killed at least 27 people in the border regions with Poonch witnessing maximum casualties.
However, with both nations agreeing to halt further military actions, there is a renewed sense of cautious optimism among local stakeholders. Many hope the fragile truce will hold and eventually bring back the flow of tourists that once breathed life into the border village.
