TIRUPATI: A 16-year-old girl, who was raped and then set ablaze by a youth in Andhra Pradesh 's Kadapa district on Saturday, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences .
The accused, Jakkala Vignesh , around 20 years old, perpetrated the crime at an isolated spot in a forested area. He was arrested on Saturday night, and has confessed to the crime.
Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has instructed police to fast track the case trial in a special court and ensure that the accused receives capital punishment .
Superintendent of Police Harshavardhan Raju said Vignesh had befriended the girl during their childhood. They fell in love. But he abandoned her and married another girl, who is now pregnant.
When the minor persistently pressured Vignesh to marry her, he devised a plan to eliminate her.
