Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said that the Electronic Voting Machine ( EVM ) has been rejected across the world but accepted in India which is against the Constitution and questioned the Supreme Court on what they have done regarding the EVM.
While addressing a press conference, Sanjay Raut doubted the EVM's accuracy in the Haryana elections and claimed that there is just a 0.6 percent difference between Congress and the BJP but the latter won 30 seats more.
"Evidence regarding this (EVM malfunctioning) came during Lok Sabha elections too. But what did the Supreme Court do? The Chief Justice is about to retire...what has he done? He didn't take decision regarding EVM. Crores of people of the country don't trust the EVMs. EVMs have been rejected across the world, however, our Supreme Court gave a clean chit to EVM. This is against the Constitution," Raut said.
He further said, "There was a big issue in Haryana. The difference of votes between BJP and Congress is 0.6 percent, how can this mean a gain of 30 seats (for the BJP)."
In Haryana elections, the Congress could win only 37 seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly, while the BJP secured 48 seats to stake claim on government formation in the state for the third successive time.
Earlier also, the Congress claimed that there were serious complaints about the integrity of the counting process and functioning of EVMs in several constituencies.
Alleging a "conspiracy", Congress blamed the EVM batteries, saying the count from machines with the fully charged ones had Congress in the lead, while those with "60%-70%" charge appeared to have been manipulated to favour BJP. Congress spokespersons Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera also alleged that the EC website delayed showing data when Congress appeared to gain lead.
