Former President Donald Trump lauded "his friend" Elon Musk after the recent successful landing of the the Starship rocket, and said that he had "never seen anything like it".
Speaking at a rally, Trump said, “Did you see the way that sucker landed today? I looked at it and said, oh, it's too bad... It was coming down so fast. I said, oh. Cause he's our friend. We want our friends to be successful, and he's really been our friend.”
Referring to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Trump expressed admiration for the landing. “I never saw anything like it... it was a beautiful, white, shiny thing. Now it's burned to a crisp, but they landed. It needs only a new paint job. That's a lot cheaper than building a new one,” he added.
Trump reminisced about a past conversation with Musk regarding the expensive engines used in rocket launches, saying, “He said engines are very expensive. We can save them with certain formulas.” Trump joked that when Musk began explaining the formulas to him, he responded, "Forget it. Didn't have to be that specific."
Musk's latest endeavour involved catching the returning booster with mechanical arms at the launch pad in Texas, a feat described as “science fiction without the fiction part.” The successful test flight was met with jubilation from SpaceX employees and NASA officials alike.
During the rally, Trump also talked about Musk's political support, saying, “You know where he is today? He's in Pennsylvania campaigning for us, not me, for us.” He further praised Musk’s endorsement, calling it “great” and added that he has received numerous endorsements from other figures, including Tulsi Gabbard and Bobby Kennedy.
Earlier, in a conversation with Maria Bartiromo on 'Sunday Morning Futures,' Donald Trump praised Elon Musk as “a great business guy” and “a great cost-cutter,” sharing Musk's claim that he could “cut costs without affecting anybody.” When asked if Musk would join his Cabinet, Trump replied, “He just wants to be in charge of cost-cutting,” suggesting a new position: Secretary of Cost-Cutting.
