The White House has issued a sharp rebuttal to former vice president Kamala Harris , following her pointed remarks at a closed-door event in Los Angeles where she appeared to take a jab at the Trump administration , calling unnamed officials "crazy m********ers."
“Kamala Harris should listen to an audio recording of her cackle of a laugh before calling anyone crazy,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai told Fox News Digital on Tuesday, in a public response targeting the former vice president’s past speaking style.
The statement came after video clips from Harris' appearance at "A Day of Unreasonable Conversation" began circulating online. In the footage, Harris said: “There’s so much about this moment that is making people feel like they’ve lost their minds. When, in fact, these m********ers are crazy.”
Though Harris didn’t name the Trump administration directly, the reference was widely interpreted as a swipe at her political opponents. She made the comment while discussing her new memoir, "107 Days," which recounts the 2024 election, when President Joe Biden stepped aside, handing her the party’s nomination in a high-stakes race to prevent a second Trump term.
“History is going to write about this. And it was important to me that that be told with my voice being present,” Harris told attendees, urging cultural storytellers to reflect real emotions in their work. The Los Angeles event was not part of her official book tour.
Harris is currently promoting the memoir with scheduled stops across New York, Houston, San Francisco, and later in Canada and the UK.
While the White House response to Harris focused on her tone and past public perception - including her often-mocked laugh - the GOP also seized on the moment. Donald Trump, during his 2024 campaign, repeatedly referred to her as “Laughing Kamala” and criticised her speaking style.
“That laugh? That’s a laugh of a crazy person... Somebody convinced her, ‘Don’t, just don’t laugh. Don’t laugh under any circumstances,’” Trump told Fox News during an interview last year.
