Brahmavara: A woman sustained fatal injuries after a tipper lorry rammed into a scooter near the Mabukala bridge on the National Highway on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Mamtaz (44), a resident of Mastinagar in Barkur.
Mamtaz and Poornima, both from Barkur, were heading towards Sasthan on a scooter when a speeding tipper lorry collided with their two-wheeler from behind.
Both women were thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to a private hospital in Brahmavara, where Mamtaz succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
She was serving as a member of the Hannehalli Gram Panchayat.
The tipper driver fled the scene without stopping. A case has been registered at the Brahmavara police station.
