A remarkable chance has emerged for individuals aspiring to work in the judiciary. The Bombay High Court has announced a recruitment notification for the role of Stenographer. The application window opened on October 27, 2025, and candidates can submit their applications online until November 10, 2025.
Applications must be submitted exclusively through the official website of the Bombay High Court, bombayhighcourt.nic.in. This recruitment drive aims to fill 12 stenographer vacancies across various High Court offices.
Educational Qualifications Required
Candidates interested in the stenographer position must possess a graduate degree from a recognized institution. Those with a minimum of five years of experience as a lower-grade stenographer in the High Court or any other court will be exempt from certain eligibility criteria. Preference will be given to candidates holding a law degree. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English shorthand at a speed of 100 words per minute and typing at 40 words per minute. Completion of the GCC-TBC course by the Government Commercial Certificate Examination or the MSCE by the Maharashtra State Board of Examinations is also mandatory.
Age Limit and Salary Structure
The age criteria for stenographer applicants range from a minimum of 21 years to a maximum of 43 years. Relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided to candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government norms. Selected individuals will receive a monthly salary between ₹56,100 and ₹1,77,500, along with dearness allowance, travel allowance, and other government benefits, in line with the Seventh Pay Commission. All applicants are required to pay an application fee of ₹1,000.
Selection Process and Examination Format
The selection procedure for the stenographer role will consist of three phases. The initial phase involves a shorthand test, where candidates will undergo dictation and transcription assessments. The second phase is a typing test to evaluate the candidates' typing speed, followed by an interview in the third phase. A merit list will be compiled based on the performance across all three stages. During the shorthand test, candidates will receive two English passages, with 5 minutes allocated for dictation and 30 minutes for transcription. In the typing test, candidates must type a 400-word English passage within 10 minutes. The interview will assess candidates' confidence and communication abilities.
