Kolkata airport recently welcomed a special visitor: the whale-shaped Airbus Beluga XL! This extraordinary aircraft made its inaugural stop in the city after arriving from Bahrain International Airport for a brief crew rest and fuel stop. The 'whale of the sky' lands in Kolkata

Though the Airbus Beluga has been flying for years, this is the first time its larger XL model has touched down at Kolkata airport; the airport has previously welcomed the smaller Beluga ST.

The Airbus Beluga is a massive cargo aircraft designed to carry oversized items like aircraft parts and space vehicles. 

Its unique silhouette has earned it the affectionate nickname "Whale of the Sky." 

Interestingly, the beluga, also known as the white whale, is one of the smaller whale species, recognised for its striking colouration and prominent forehead.
